i think the common thread with abusers or predators or just really uncomfortable people to be around in social justice circles specifically is that their behaviors are always hid behind and justified (to themselves) by a cause. you cannot call out someone who genuinely believes they are protecting young people, fighting ableism/racism/misogyny/transphobia/etc and however they intersect, or generally doing right by their beliefs because they won’t hear it. it will never be about their fucked up, twisted ideologies that they use to manipulate how they are perceived by others in their community, and how that affects those who are younger, intimidated by, or less experienced than themselves. it will always be about how they are being attacked or harassed, that they are or were “just doing their best” and thus don’t deserve being questioned or called out. they will look to literally anyone but the people they have hurt or offended (or worse) to validate their own feelings and keep their influence intact, because that is all that matters to them. their causes and apparent care for them are a facade for their problematic or immediately harmful behavior or ideas that they don’t want to face or come to terms with.

Police officers in Ferguson, Missouri, have begun wearing body cameras after weeks of unrest over the shooting death of an unarmed black teen by a white officer and sharply differing accounts of the incident, officials said on Sunday.
Michael Brown, 18, was shot multiple times by Ferguson Police Officer Darren Wilson on Aug. 9, sparking nearly three weeks of angry protests in the St. Louis suburb and drawing global attention to race relations in the United States.
Law enforcement and witnesses gave differing accounts of what transpired before Brown was shot, with police saying the teen had struggled with the officer. Witnesses say Brown held up his hands and was surrendering when he was shot multiple times in the head and chest.
The discrepancy has revived calls for officers across the county to be outfitted with body cameras to help capture an accurate record of police-involved incidents.
